World Ocean Day – OLVEA Omega Solutions ocean wave illustrating traceable and responsibly sourced omega‑3 oils

For nearly a century, the history of the OLVEA Group has been closely linked to the ocean.

Long before sustainability became a central topic in public debate, our teams were already working with a strong conviction: the quality of raw materials goes hand in hand with a deep understanding of their origin and with respect for natural resources.

On the occasion of World Ocean Day, OLVEA Omega Solutions reaffirms an approach built on facts, proven methods, and a long‑term vision.

For us, the ocean is neither a symbol nor a marketing argument: it is a concrete reality of our daily operations, whose preservation requires rigor, transparency, and responsibility at every stage of the omega‑3 value chain.

The ocean: a concrete industrial responsibility

Working with omega‑3‑rich oils entails a specific responsibility toward marine ecosystems.
This responsibility translates into a clear operational requirement: the ability to document and control the origin of each batch.

At OLVEA Omega Solutions, traceability covers the entire journey of oils, from the ocean to our customers, including in particular:
  • the species,
  • the fishing areas,
  • the fishing gear used.
This level of transparency provides tangible guarantees to our partners in human nutrition, animal nutrition, and aquaculture, within a highly regulated and demanding environment.

Sourcing structured around responsible supply chains

Addressing sustainability in omega‑3 oils means going beyond statements of intent.

Our sourcing policy is based on responsible supply chain choices, aligned with internationally recognized standards:
  • certified supply chains (MSC, MarinTrust, Friend of the Sea),
  • fisheries engaged in Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs),
  • the valorization of co‑products.
This progressive and measurable approach is part of a structuring objective: to reach 100% responsibly sourced feed & food fish oils by 2029.

Diversifying omega‑3 sources to strengthen resilience

Preserving marine resources also requires a structured approach to diversifying omega‑3 sources, in a context of limited availability and growing nutritional needs.

Oils derived from cultivated microalgae represent a credible complementary pathway. Produced under controlled conditions and independent of marine ecosystems, they provide a source of EPA and DHA that meets high standards in terms of quality, traceability, and consistency.

In this context, OLVEA Omega Solutions combines fish oils with nutrients derived from cultivated microalgae in order to:
  • broaden sourcing options,
  • address constraints linked to resource availability,
  • develop omega‑3 profiles tailored to the specific needs of its customers in human nutrition, animal nutrition, and aquaculture.
This approach is not intended to oppose sources, but to design balanced solutions based on science, innovation, and rigorous quality control throughout the entire value chain.

Quality, safety, and responsibility: inseparable fundamentals

Ocean preservation goes hand in hand with high standards of quality and safety.

The activities of OLVEA Omega Solutions are recognized by leading organizations through:
  • HACCP systems,
  • FSSC 22000‑certified refining units,
  • GMP+‑compliant sites,
  • social audits (SMETA),
  • independent CSR assessments (EcoVadis).
These frameworks ensure the reliability of the oils produced, while guaranteeing compliance with the environmental and social standards expected by all our stakeholders.

On this World Ocean Day, OLVEA Omega Solutions does not claim to provide universal answers to the challenges facing marine ecosystems. However, we firmly believe that transparency, scientific rigor, and a long‑term perspective are essential foundations for building the future of omega‑3s.

This conviction is shared by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), which, on this occasion, highlights Ocean Heroes through a series of testimonials from around the world. Fishers, scientists, and field practitioners share their experiences and commitments, reminding us that ocean preservation relies above all on concrete actions carried out daily by those directly involved.

An invitation to take a step back, recognize the value of collective initiatives, and reaffirm that every commitment, at its own scale, contributes to a future in which oceans can continue to thrive.
