OMEGA-3 FISH OILS

Pelagic fish is an important source for fisheries in Morocco and Mauritania. The sardine stock is managed under a robust management system and stock status is evaluated by models and surveys.

OLVEA has been supporting the management of this fishery for many years through the sardine FIP (Fishery Improvement Project) in Morocco and Mauritania. The anchovy fishery now has its own FIP, and an independent evaluation which makes it close to the level required for MSC certification.

The Moroccan sardine fishery has been in Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) since 2014, working towards MSC certification. OLVEA and its suppliers have been consistent supporters of the FIP since the beginning. The FIP has been given an A rating by independent evaluation, and the fishery has now been evaluated to meet the requirements for MSC certification – work is underway to launch an assessment.

In Mauritania, fishing is crutial to the economy and well-being of its people, supplying up to 10% of GDP and around 30% of the national budget. OLVEA’s investment in Mauritania aims to support long-term sustainable development. OLVEA started a FIP in Mauritania in 2017 and we are working with suppliers and competitors alike to take the lead in moving the fishery towards sustainability. The FIP was recently accepted under the MarinTrust Improver Programme.

As a result of our commitment to sustainable fishing, OLVEA Fish Oils is certified MarinTrust Chain of Custody and Friend of the Sea for the Moroccan sardine oils.

COD LIVER OIL

Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is an important fish stock caught around Iceland. Atlantic cod is a deep-water fish, living at more than 1,300 feet depths on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Cod liver oil is well known for its high content in vitamins A and D3 as well as essential fatty acids like arachidonic acid, EPA and DHA. It has been used for centuries to treat diseases and as a dietary supplement to help prevent nutrients deficiency. Our cod liver oil is obtained from the fresh livers of wild Icelandic cod. Only Gadus Morhua fishes from the Gadidae family are used to produce our high quality cod liver oil.

We offer a wide variety of cod liver oils products ranging from crude to fully refined and ready to use products. Our ready-to-use cod liver oil meets the British, European and United States Pharmacopeias in force.

SALMON OIL

Salmon oil (Salmonidae) mainly comes from the salmon farming industry in Norway and Chili. It contains up to 5% EPA/DHA levels and about 8% of Omega-3s.

OLVEA’s salmon oil is derived from by-products which allow to fully use the product and have a high level on the sustainable score and management system.

Salmon oil is used for petfood and animal nutrition, as a supplement to their diets.
